'Star Wars' actress Natalie Portman has vowed never to get married - insisting she doesn't need a piece of paper to prove she's committed to her partner.
The 'Closer' beauty, who is currently dating fashion designer Nathan Bogle, is unhappy with the government's definition of marriage and can't understand why she should apply the same rules to her own relationships.
Portman slams the legal aspects surrounding the exchanging of marital vows - branding it unfair that gay couples are not bestowed the same rights.
She says: "I'm into monogamy. But I'm not really into marriage. I sort of hate the legal aspect of it. What does the state have to do with it?
"Why are they making rules that say my lover can stay in the United States if they're foreign or share my health care benefits because I'm straight - but if you're gay, you can't have that?"

Famed British rock singer David Bowie reportedly helps out on two songs on U.S. actress Scarlett Johansson's forthcoming debut CD, "Anywhere I Lay My Head."
The tribute to Tom Waits is set to drop May 20.
The BBC said Bowie sings new versions of "Falling Down" and "Fannin' Street" on the album, which includes 10 covers of Waits' songs and an original composition called "Song for Jo."
Johansson, best known for her roles in "Girl With a Pearl Earring" and "Lost in Translation," will soon be seen in "The Other Boleyn Girl," in which she plays doomed Queen Anne Boleyn's sister Mary.
The movie is scheduled to screen at the Berlin Film Festival.
Ratings:
4 for Natalie Portman. She is a sight to behold in this jeweled-neck 3.1 Philip Lim sheath. Need we say more?
1 for Scarlett Johannson. Her floral belted dress and flat Mary Janes make her look like Natalie's chaperon. Is she fine with that?
