Drew Barrymore has donated $1million (£503,000) to the United Nations' World Food Programme (WFP) to help starving children in Kenya.

The actress announced her "incredible donation" on the Monday edition of Oprah Winfrey chat show, telling Winfrey she was determined to help the WFP's $3 billion (£1.5 billion) Fill the Cup campaign to feed 59 million school children in developing countries.

"I have seen with my own eyes what a difference a simple cup of nutritious porridge can make in a child's life," the Charlie's Angels star explained.

Barrymore, 33, has travelled to Kenya twice in the past two years as part of her work as a WFP ambassador against hunger.

"It helps them learn, stay healthy and sets them on track for a bright future. I urge everyone - everywhere - to help WFP 'Fill the Cup' for hungry children, and make hunger history," she added.

Josette Sheeran, WFP executive director, also on the show, said the agency has "a dream… to feed another ten million hungry school children in Africa by Thanksgiving Day".

Twice-divorced Barrymore was also quizzed about her relationship with Die Hard 4 star Justin Long, which she described as "the best".

"This relationship is great; it's healthy and it's productive and it's supportive and it's full of humour," she added.

Long, 29, is starring alongside Scarlett Johansson and Jennifer Aniston in upcoming comedy He's Just Not That Into You, produced by Barrymore's Flower Films.

When asked what he liked about Barrymore, the Accepted actor explained that "she smells good".

"She's beautiful and funny," he added, "The most compassionate person I've ever met."

Barrymore was married to Welsh barman Jeremy Thomas, who she divorced in 1995, before marrying comedian Tom Green, divorcing the Canadian in 2002.

If I were to dress up Drew it would certainly be as sunny as her personality. Since she's always  on the go, this crossback dress with clementine and blue floral print would be perfect for her. Drew can easily pull this look off with flat sandals, wedges or chunky platforms.

What's wrong with the picture? You have an oversize belt and floral print which doesn't do anything but make the dress look weird. I told you Ikea bed sheets have better floral patterns!

2007 People Magazine Ten Best Dressed

6. Drew Barrymore - She has been dubbed by the magazine as the master of style being able to go from glam to casual without a glitch. Or so they say.

Rating: 1

I love Drew, she is indubitably adorable. But when it comes to style, I would think unstable would be the best word to call it. Just look at this horrible outfit she is wearing. Case closed.

Yes, while it's true that she might have a few hits here and there but what do we do with the misses? Do we just pretend like it never happened, like she was never photographed in a hideous outfit ever?

Jennifer Connelly is in talks to star in He's Just Not That Into You, a comedy that Drew Barrymore is producing and starring in for New Line Cinema.

Also in negotiations to star are Kevin Connolly (Entourage), Bradley Cooper (Alias), Justin Long (Ed, Live Free or Die Hard), and Ginnifer Goodwin (Big Love). Ken Kwapis (License to Wed) is directing the film, which is based on a best-selling book about modern-day relationships.

The book's authors, Greg Behrendt and Liz Tuccillo, worked together on Sex and the City as a consultant and writer, respectively. For Into You, Jennifer Connelly will play a woman stuck in a tired marriage with Cooper's character.

Kevin Connolly will play a man pining after a woman (still not cast) who is having an affair with Cooper, while Goodwin will portray a woman, obsessed with Kevin Connolly's character, who tries to set up accidental meetings with him.

Long will play a friend of Connolly's character who takes on Goodwin as a My Fair Lady experiment. Finally, Barrymore plays a woman confused by dating in a culture obsessed with technology rather than actual human contact. Production is scheduled to start next month.

While some people might get turned off when they see their fave celebs dress down, I like it. I love the fact that I see them in jeans and a tee. The world is not a red carpet. Some people would say, they owe it to the public to look good. True, but looking great is also achievable even when wearing thongs.

I don't see anything wrong with Drew's outfit in a convenience store. If she wore designer items from head to toe only to go the convenience store then that would be superficial. The mere fact that she went in the convenience store is already something. They can't be glamorous all the time. Come on, let's be real - they are people too.

Drew Barrymore is a major Hollywood star. She has a very hectic schedule. Every weekend, Drew seems to be opening her latest movies. So, we must try to understand Drew when she wanted time off to go picnic wearing a picnic blanket. Her publicist apparently forgot to tell her what the picnic blanket was for.
