Bridesmaid Ashanti. It’s green, it’s wrinkly, and it’s scary. Should I say, Bridezilla?

Trophy Cat Deeley. What award would this win? Most twisted use of gold lamé?

Bad in Blue

As Becky Newton crosses her legs for a pose, I’m crossing my fingers that someone else other than her is a fan of this blue number.

Maybe Christina is, as she is stretching out her hand as if to say “Give it to me!” Well, at least she’s still got a drop of fashion sense in her. She knows that Becki’s got the bad blue dress, but hers is worse.

All in a Day’s Work

Yes, Sheryl, I want to use that mic to pound Ashanti’s head too. There’s a reason why leggings are usually worn with longer tops. But there’s no reason for that metallic flower around her waist. Do you even have wardrobe people, Ashanti?

But Sheryl Crow is Sheryl Crow and she can wear whatever she wants. Not a huge lover of country glam but I’m definitely a fan of Sheryl’s music. So I’m not complaining.

Don’t they know that not everything that glitters is gold? We could surely use Ashanti’s dress for the Christmas season so you are a little too early dahlin’. And what is with the boat shoes, your feet going on a cruise?

Molly, do I need to have a map to locate your whistle bait figure underneath that sequined potato sack?

Ashanti got her first taste of acting as a child extra in the Spike Lee directed movies Malcolm X and Who’s Da Man.In January 2005, she made her feature film acting debut in the film Coach Carter alongside Samuel L. Jackson. The movie opened at number-one at the U.S. box office, eventually grossing $67 million in the U.S.

Later in 2005, Ashanti beat out Hilary Duff and Jessica Simpson to star as Dorothy Gale in the made-for-television film The Muppets’ Wizard of Oz, which pulled in nearly 8 million viewers.

In 2006, she starred in the teen comedy John Tucker Must Die, which opened and peaked at #3 at the U.S. box office (competing with Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest and Miami Vice) and grossed $68,818,076 worldwide.

No one with an ounce of common sense would dare go out in public wearing this. What’s wrong? There’s just not one thing right about it!

Ashanti first announced her presence with the Big Pun hit “How We Roll” in 2001. Her sound was infectious and caught the attention of record producers. Irv Gotti, the polished producer with Murder Inc. Records, was credited with her discovery and what was supposed to be an initial collaboration, turned into a record contract. The demure and feminine Ashanti was hesitant at first to sign with a label named Murder Inc., but she filled a void in the company stable of talent.
The marketing team at Murder Inc. went to work to promote Ashanti in time for her debut release. She was featured on the Ja Rule smash “Always On Time,” receiving major airwave and video exposure. In addition, her voice was loaned out to reigning Don of the Terror Squad, Fat Joe, for his big hit “What’s Luv?”. Ashanti stole both songs away from the thug rappers and created such a buzz that her self-titled debut album was released early, on April 9, 2002.

Yes, we all love them maxis! But some prints are just a big no-no. Are those pink and yellow round things flowers? Or donuts or dart boards or bacteria?

Ashanti’s Idol

Ashanti had already scored three major hits before her first album dropped. When it did on April 9, 2002, it went on to sell over 500,000 units in one week and entered the Billboard 200 chart at #1, knocking Celine Dion off of her pedestal.

The enormity of the achievement is impressive because it compares and even surpasses the debut solo efforts of Alicia Keys, Christina Aguilera and Jennifer Lopez. Speaking of Lopez, did we mention that Ashanti has a writing credit on her smash remix hit “I’m Real”? In addition, she has written tracks for Christina Milian and the upcoming pop act Shorty 101.

“I didn’t want to sing only slow songs and I didn’t want to be spittin’ rhymes. But Mary [J. Blige] put those concepts together. She cleared the way, and now I’m following my own path.” -Ashanti

Bad dresses can’t be remedied by adding a belt. Even Ashanti’s blue killer stilettos are not getting the job done.

Ashanti Douglas was born in 1980 in Glen Cove, Long Island, New York into a musical family. Her father used to sing and her mother is a dance instructor. Ashanti began to sing in a gospel choir at the age of 6. As she grew, her musical talent developed and with it, appearances followed.

She danced in a show at Carnegie Hall and in the Disney television musical Polly. It was in high school that she honed her songwriting skills and harnessed her talent for creating a story that people could relate to, song after song.

Props to Ashanti for picking a pretty dress. But the hair’s stuck in an ‘80s time warp. Try a sleep ponytail for a laid-back, more youthful look.
