A Supermodel Speaks

Claudia Schiffer says that models have become too skinny to be attractive, the Associated Press reports.

"It doesn't really look good any more," the 36-year-old says in an interview with Germany's Bunte magazine.

"Fashion looks good on thin models, but when you look at today's models you can not help but think there is something wrong. They are way too thin. It is only bones that stick out."

Schiffer hit her stride as a catwalker in the 90s, along with supermodels like Naomi Campbell, Cindy Crawford, Christie Turlington and Linda Evangelista.

Schiffer isn’t the only one who’s noticed something lacking in today’s models.

The city of Madrid recently banned models below a certain weight from its fashion shows. Models with a body-mass-index (BMI) — which takes into account height and weight — of less than 18 were not allowed to take to the runway.

"Models have always been thin. But today, they are even thinner, which is unbelievable," said Schiffer, who has been on the cover of more than 550 magazines during her career.

Schiffer said she was on the heavy side when she began modeling in 1988.

"I was one of the fattest when I started," said Schiffer, who according to a German magazine website "Modellkartei" nevertheless has a BMI of just under 18. The Web site lists Schiffer as 5’11” and weighing 128 pounds.

"Ever since I started having children, I can eat whatever I want. I eat chocolate almost every day and drink whole milk so that I don't lose any more (weight)," said Schiffer, who has a daughter, Clementine, who turns 2 in November, and a son Caspar, 3, with her husband Matthew Vaughn.

"When media started writing that I looked too thin and ill, I went to the doctor. He said I was healthy," she said. "I didn't gain weight after the pregnancies. I hope it stays like that."

More supermodels should campaign against the skinny models. This madness should stop! I like my supermodels with boobs and butts not bones.

Rating: 2

I really don't get the whole point of this fad, the dress with those boots. Like there is something amiss. I can't stand it.

Which is better? The healthy Kate or the barely there Kate Bosworth. Seriously, why would you want to be thin and look like that? When you go that thin, the first to go is your boobs, so who are you really attracting? The vultures?

Rating:

2 for the white dress. It's not fit for red carpet.

4 for the cute ensemble. The thing is, it is cute but it looks dead on a dead person.

The Real Scary Spice

Actually, she should have taken the scary spice name rather than posh because she is far from it. Look at the bright side, she can be a very good accesory for Halloween. Also, I seriously think Mr. Scarecrow take his retirement and should be succeeded Victoria Beckham. Another reason to ban skinny models, they give the wrong impression.

Rating:

1 for the crazy black outfit.

2 for the pink/black outfit. I love pink but definitely not on her skeletons.

Non Existent Boobs

I support the ban on skinny models. Since celebrities have so much power and influence on their hands, the little people tend to emulate and then justify what they are doing only because the stars are doing it. So if Keira is doing it, I might as well do it too. Celebrities make it look cool to people who don't know the difference. To borrow a line from the movie Spiderman, with great power comes great responsibility. Appararently, they don't know what that means. Ha!

You know what's so funny of it all? When they try to deny the fact that they don't have an eating disorder and it shows. If she thinks she looks cool looking like skeletor, so be it.

Rating:

1 for gown on left. She might have been a little chubby but she looked healthy and human.

4 For the gown on the right. I have to admit that it looks good on her, but I still think she needs to put on some weight. Seriously Keira.
