Tilda’s Zoolander Moment

Posted by Mean Critic
jsw_01937_tilda_swinton_by_septimiu_112_122_254lo.jpg

Actress Tilda Swinton was so convinced she would not win an Academy Award, she didn't hear her name when it was announced.

The 47-year-old Brit, who won the Best Supporting Actress Oscar for her role in Michael Clayton, has dubbed the seconds following her win a "reverse Zoolander moment", in a reference to Ben Stiller's 2001 comedy in which a dim-witted male model tries to accept an award given to his rival.

After her big win, she told reporters, "I really just had a reverse Zoolander moment when I think I heard someone else's name and suddenly slowly heard my own.

"I'm still recovering from that moment, and I have absolutely no idea what happened after that. So, you know, you can tell me my dress fell off and I'd believe you, so don't be cruel."

Rating: 1

Either Tilda was still in character or she's ready to rumble. Roll up your sleeves, fight club is happening!

Hilary Solo Flight

Posted by Mean Critic
jsw_hilary-swank-02.jpg

Hilary Swank is to play aviation pioneer Amelia Earhart in a biopic set to begin shooting in April, according to US reports.

The Oscar-winning actress signed for the project last year while Avalon Pictures have taken advantage of the postponement of Shantaram to contract Mira Nair for directing duties.

Swank will play the pilot as her flight to fame began, when publicist George Putnam was engaged by socialite Amy Guest in 1927 to set up a non-stop flight across the Atlantic.

When Guest realized she was not capable of completing the journey herself, Putnam recruited Earhart, who had set the world altitude record for a female pilot in 1922. Though she later admitted that co-pilot Wilmer Schultz did most of the flying on the trip from Trepassey Harbour, Newfoundland to Burry Port in Wales, the flight propelled Earhart to worldwide fame.
She disappeared in 1937 over the central Pacific Ocean while attempting to make a circumnavigational flight of the globe.

Ron Bass completed the Amelia script before the Hollywood writers' strike began, using Susan Butler's book East to the Dawn, Elgin Long's Amelia Earhart: The Mystery Solved and Mary Lovell's The Sound of the Wings as resources.

Swank can currently be seen in the romantic comedy hit PS I Love You and stars alongside Matthew Perry, Ben Foster and Ginnifer Goodwin in family comedy Birds of America, while Nair is shooting sprawling love story New York, I Love You.

Rating: 1

If Hilary wanted to make a statement at the Oscar's red carpet, she would made a bigger splash in the water in her boring mermaid style gown.

Diane’s Neck Problems

Posted by Mean Critic
jsw_diane-lane-02.jpg

Actress DIANE LANE's modelling career came to an end when she was just 12, after an agency hotshot decided her neck was too short. The actress' mother Colleen Farrington was a lingerie model, and the young beauty had hoped to follow in her catwalk footsteps, but it was not to be. And she found out the hard way, during a meeting with Eileen Ford, the legendary founder of the Ford Model Agency. She reveals, "Somebody convinced me I could pull it off, because I was tall. But I went to visit Eileen Ford and she told me my neck was too short. So that was that."

Rating: 2

Diane might be on trend with her dark brown one shoulder dress but it ain't Oscar worthy. The silver embellishment didn't do the trick.

Keri Russell

Keri had a child, River Russell Deary on June 9, 2007 in New York City. She and contractor Shane Deary, both 31, became engaged last year, and were married on February 14, 2007.

After winning a Golden Globe for Best Actress, Drama Series, for Felicity, she reportedly asked for a sizable raise and walked off the set when the network refused. Russell was receiving an estimated $20,000-$30,000 per episode - the same pay as her non-leading co-stars.

She was named for her grandfather Kermit and spent most of her childhood relocating between Texas, Arizona, Colorado, and California because of her father's job.

She studied dance while in school but her discovery by a talent scout in Denver lead to acting jobs in commercials, movies and TV.

Read for the part of Lois Lane for Superman Returns in 2006, but lost to Kate Bosworth.

Rating: 3

Keri's champagne organza bustier evening dress is like prom queen minus the crown. But we can have the lovely floral vintage necklace anytime Keri!

Kelly Does Charity

jsw_kelly-preston-01.jpg

John Travolta and Kelly Preston have helped raise $1.2 million for a new neonatal intensive care unit at St. Vincent's Hospital in Jacksonville, Fla.

The married Hollywood stars were guests at the 27th annual Red Rose Ball, at the request of their attorney, Michael Ossi, whose entertainment law firm, Ossi, Najem & Rosario, is based in Jacksonville.

Ossi served as the event's honorary chair and his law partner, Lawrence Najem, served as co-chair.

"Both John and Kelly have a huge heart for children and children's issues," Ossi said in statement. "They stayed at the event for nearly five hours greeting nearly every one of the 720 guests. The celebrities epitomize the very best in Hollywood; they offer their personal time and star power to help children."

"Even more important than the seven figure success of the evening, is the number of lives of the tiniest infants that will be saved; the number of babies who will go home with Mom and Dad healthy and the number of poor mothers who will have the best facility and technology available to anyone, anywhere," said Scott Whalen, St. Vincent's President & CEO.

Rating: 3

Kelly is still a cutie at 45 and even if she went safe with her canary yellow strapless number, we're wowed with the fact that she still looks gorgeous and natural. (we hope!) Although red ruled the carpet, this color shines too.

Cate’s About to Pop

Cate Blanchett

At the 2008 Richard Attenborough Film Awards in England, Cate was awarded the 'Actress of the Year Award' for her performance in Elizabeth: The Golden Age.

Cate was listed at #63 in Forbes magazine's Celebrity 100 of 2007.

Cate and writer-director husband, Andrew Upton are expecting their third child, due in April, 2008.

Cate has stated that it was difficult and terrifing to play the late Katharine Hepburn.

Cate has stated that she thinks that it is important thing to travel in her business.

Cate wears a size 6 shoe.

Cate is 5 feet 8.5 inches (1.74 metres) tall.

Rating: 1

Three things about Cate's purple number. 1 The neckline, looks like somebody is about to wring her neck. 2. She was wearing killer stilettos, something really dangerous for a very pregnant Blanchett. 3 This purple number is way too simple and blah for the Oscars.

Amy: The Guest-Spot Queen

Posted by Mean Critic
jsw_amy-adams-02.jpg

Amy Adams

She performed live at the 2008 Academy Awards, singing Happy Working Song from her movie Enchanted, which was nominated for Best Original Song.

In 1998, she was spotted in the chorus of the Country Dinner Playhouse production of "Anything Goes" by producer Michael Nelson, who made her audition for the movie Drop Dead Gorgeous, which was filming near-by. Amy won the role, and it set her on the road to stardom.

A contract dispute with the producers of the short-lived Rob Lowe series Dr Vegas resulted in her being fired. The show was canceled soon after her final episode aired.

She used to dub herself "the guest-spot queen", after almost 20 guest spots on TV series early in her career.

Before landing her Oscar-nominated role in Junebug, she was planning on quitting acting.

She was raised a Mormon, but departed the religion in her teens.

Rating: 1

When they say there are a lot of fish in the ocean, they do they actually mean the red carpet? I have never seen so many mermaid dresses in my life other than the red carpet and it's all fishy and it stinks.

Calista: Small But Not Terrible

Posted by Mean Critic
jsw_calista-flockhart-01.jpg

"He is as my own. I love him very, very much. It's a great joy to watch him grow up." HARRISON FORD on raising partner CALISTA FLOCKHART's seven-year-old adopted son LIAM as his own.

"Because I'm small and softly-spoken, people tend to think I'm fragile and subservant. And for some reason they think they need to protect me, which is so condescending. "It used to send me into a rage, but I've learned to be patient with it. I'm happy with who I am - and that's all that should ever matter. The rest is irrelevant."

Rating: 2

Wearing a Grecian dress doesn't automatically turn one into a goddess. The icy blue color is nice to the eyes but the gray sash made it look totally curtain material.

Jennifer’s Didn’t Get Love

Posted by Mean Critic
jsw_jennifer-hudson-02.jpg

Jennifer Hudson

Jennifer was to perform at Starbuck’s annual meeting in March 2007, but her performance was canceled, reportedly due to her diva demands. Jennifer’s agency had demanded hair and make-up artists, five cars, humidifiers, security for her and her assistant and baked chicken wings at 10am. The chairman of Starbucks canceled the event.

Jennifer sang for the first time in public at the age of seven, in front of a small church congregation. Her soulful sound had them on their feet, and inviting her back week after week for her solos.

Jennifer beat out over 800 actors and singers, including American Idol winner Fantasia Barrino for the role of Effie White in the film Dreamgirls.

Jennifer's 1st professional performance was in a local stage production of Big River.

Jennifer was hired by Disney as a featured vocalist, chosen to entertain thousands of travelers on the Disney Wonder cruise ship in 2002.

Jennifer's 2007 Supporting Actress Oscar was presented to her by George Clooney.

Rating: 2

Jennifer didn't go old Hollywood route but went current in her white Roberto Cavalli with animal print detail. The dress is not really that bad as what people are saying, it's just awful because Jennifer's boobs are wearing them. It would a little decent on somebody else I bet!

Marion’s Fishy Dress

Posted by Mean Critic
jsw_marillion-cotillard-02.jpg

The stunningly beautiful Marion Cotillard (especially if you saw what she looked like in La Vie en Rose - see right) was beaming as she took questions from press in the Kodak Theater's press room.

"It's just joy and so unexpected that it's surreal, but I love it, I love it," said an ecstatic Cotillard.

Cotillard went on to give one of the night's greatest quotes: "I'm totally overwhelmed with joy and then sparkles and fireworks and everything which goes like bam, bam, bam! I just ate all those things and it's happening right here, right now."

Rating: 1

The little mermaid is a story about a mermaid who gave up her life in the sea to become human and win the love of the prince. Fortunately, Marion didn't only get that, she became a movie star and won an Oscar! I need to get in touch with Ursula ASAP!
