Shenae Grimes of “90210″ says people who wonder about rumors swirling around her that she has an eating disorder, that she behaves badly on set, and that she is a party girl should confirm facts with her before believing them.
“Nobody has asked me about it. I really can’t help what someone thinks of me because they are reading a paper and choosing to believe it,” said Grimes to PEOPLE in its new issue.
The Toronto teen said the experience of moving to Los Angeles earlier this year is similar to that of her character in the TV remake of the FOX drama, a high school student named Annie Wilson. “It was a huge culture shock,” shared Grimes,.
Soon after she became a celebrity, Grimes and her female 90210 costars were accused of being too thin and having eating disorders. “It’s so frustrating,” Grimes said, emphasizing that she does not have an eating disorder, but did have a close friend who struggled with one for years.
“Meet me in person, and you can’t say anything. No bones sticking out,” Grimes, who has been thin all her life, told PEOPLE. “Just because people are calling you skinny doesn’t mean I’m like, ‘Yay!’ No! You’re telling me I don’t look right. This is me, this is my body – I have accepted it.”
So is she a diva on set and a party girl? Grimes shrugs it off. “The hours I work I definitely can’t,” said the self-proclaimed homebody who likes to watch DVDs and hang out with friends.
“These are stories that have been written about everybody,” Grimes stated. “Of course we’re the new girls on a hit show so we’re plopped into these little boxes. And people buy it. It makes me totally second guess anything I’ve ever read about anybody.”
