One of the most-loved animators of all time, Bill Melendez has passed away last Tuesday at the St. John Hospital in Santa Monica, his publicist told E! News. He was 91.

The Mexican animator is the voice behind Snoopy and is responsible for bringing A Charlie Brown Christmas and those dozens of other Peanuts specials to the small screen. He started off his brilliant body of work way back in 1938, while working for Walt Disney on classics such as Fantasia and Pinocchio. Melendez then moved on to Warner Bros. in 1941, bringing to life characters such as Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck.

It was in 1959 that this iconic animator met the legendary Peanuts creator Charles Schultz. He won an Oscar in music in 1971 for A Boy Named Charlie Brown.
