Hollywood’s most iconic Catwoman, Julie Newmar, believes that Angelina Jolie is best suited for the role once she gets back in shape.

Newmar tells the New York Daily News, “Angelina would own the part. My industry friends tell me (she) has made inquiries about the role. I can understand how it would pique her interest. Catwoman is Batman’s one true love. She’s tremendously popular with women because she’s both a heroine and a villainess.”

But according to the publication, the film’s writers Jonathan Nolan and David Goyer recently said that there are no plans yet to resurrect Batman’s slinky adversary.

Newmar, 74, first appeared as the feline villain in 1966 in the Batman television series. In 1992, Michelle Pfeiffer took over the task of sporting the skintight outfit, while Halle Berry captured the public’s admiration in 2004’s Catwoman.

Movie bosses have refuted reports that Tom Cruise is getting ready to reprise his role as a fighter pilot in a follow up to the 1986 smash hit Top Gun.

Rumors claim that the Mission Impossible actor is set to resume his portrayal as fighter-pilot Maverick - after 22 years - and is returning to the Top Gun academy as a flight instructor.

However, a representative from Paramount Pictures, the studio that brought Top Gun to the big screen, denies the reports and states that there is “no way” Cruise will be enlisting himself for the upcoming project.

Cruise’s spokesperson has also confirmed that the actor will not be taking up the role again for a sequel to the film.

New Line Cinema has reportedly made a deal with Hairspray creator John Waters to pen a follow up to summer 2007’s blockbuster musical feature.

The plan is to pick up the Baltimore tale of the Turnblad clan following the resolution of the original movie, which was set in the 1960s.

While the studio is said to be looking forward to reunite the original cast, none has been engaged so far. Set to make a comeback are producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron, award-winning songwriters Scott Wittman and Marc Shaiman, and director-choreographer Adam Shankman.

Last year’s Hairspray starred John Travolta, who donned a fat suit to play Edna, Christopher Walken, Nikki Blonsky, Zac Efron, Queen Latifah, Michelle Pfeiffer, Amanda Bynes, Elijah Kelley, James Marsden, and Allison Janney.

Hairspray earned over $200 million internationally whose DVD and soundtrack album also sold well. Warner Bros. expects to release the sequel by mid-July 2010, emulating the release of the original.

Jolie-Pitt Conceived Twins Through In Vitro

The famous Hollywood couple resorted to fertility treatments to promptly conceive Knox and Vivienne, a source tells Us Weekly.

The source extremely close to Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt reveals, “They conceived through in vitro fertilization. They both desperately wanted more babies soon.”

According to Dr. Arthur Wisot of L.A.’s Reproductive Medical Group, who isn’t at all involved with Jolie and Pitt’s in vitro procedure, “We live in an era of reproductive freedom, so anybody can do anything they want within legal limits.”

The understanding is that the likelihood of Jolie conceiving fraternal twins through the natural process at age 33 is under 1 percent. But through in vitro, Jolie’s chances shot up to 25%.

Jolie opted to undergo the procedure, which reportedly can “cost around $12,000 a pop,” so “she wouldn’t have to deal with the stress of trying to get pregnant. She could just knock it out,” the source tells Us Weekly.

In an interview with Elle U.K. last year, the actress hinted about producing as many kids as possible. “If we’re going to have 10 kids, we’d like to raise them while we’re young.”

The source adds that Jolie and Pitt, who turns 45 on December, “were too impatient.”

Conservative columnist Robert D. Novak hit a pedestrian Wednesday morning during rush hour and then drove away in his black Corvette, Politico reports.

The pedestrian, a 66-year-old man, sustained minor injuries and was treated at George Washington University Hospital.

Novak, 77, said he was a block away from 18th and K St. NW, where the accident occurred, when a bicyclist stopped him and said, “You hit someone.” Novak said he was cited for failing to yield the right of way.

The bicyclist was David Bono, a partner at Harkins Cunningham, who was pedaling to work at 1700 K St. NW when he witnessed the accident. He said he chased Novak, caught up with him, blocked the Corvette by putting his bike in front of it, and then called 911.

Politico reports that Novak said, “I didn’t know I hit him. I feel terrible.” He added, “He’s not dead, that’s the main thing.”

However, Bono suggested that it would have been difficult for the columnist to miss the pedestrian who was reportedly “splayed onto the windshield.”

Novak, known as the Prince of Darkness, has a reputation around Washington as an aggressive driver. Back in 2001, he said he despises jaywalkers and was thinking about running them over.

When asked about his previous comments, he replied, “I’ve said a lot of things I shouldn’t have said.”

Sean Connery Denies Ex-Wife’s Allegations

Former James Bond has refuted rumors that he is leaving his son Jason out of his will and has labeled ex-wife Diane Cilento’s accusations “insane.”

Cilento, to whom he was married to for 11 years, has accused him of refusing to leave inheritance for his 45-year-old son.

Connery, who claims his ex-wife is still bitter about the collapse of their marriage, says, “I haven’t seen the woman in 37 years and she knows nothing about me or my life now.

“Diane can’t move on from the break up of our marriage and I have already had to contend with her accusations about me being violent towards her. Now the lies seem to be getting even more vicious, and, what is worse, she is dragging our son into it.

“I have just come off the phone to Jason and I know he will be making his own statement but I never told him I wasn’t going to leave him a penny in my will or that I said he only had the career he has as an actor and director because of his family name. He happens to have talent of his own.”

Connery also said that he set up a trust fund worth $85,000 for Jason and Cilento’s daughter before he and Cilento divorced.

Golden Girl Estelle Getty Passes Away

The ultimate Golden Girl Estelle Getty has died Tuesday (July 22) at the age of 84.

Longtime manager Alan Siegel told People that the Golden Girls actress died in her sleep at her Hollywood Boulevard home. She had been suffering from Lewy body dementia, a progressive brain disease.

The hit series, which also starred Bea Arthur, Betty White and Rue McClanahan, revolved around the lives and loves of four female retirees sharing a house in Miami.

In the Golden Girls, Getty played the sarcastic and sharp-tongued octogenarian Sophia Petrillo, an intrusive Sicilian mother spending her twilight years with her middle-aged daughter and two roommates.

The tremendously popular sitcom ran from 1985 to 1992 and went on to win four Golden Globe awards and numerous Emmys. Getty earned seven Emmy nominations for her role and won an award in 1988 for outstanding supporting actress in a comedy series.

The diminutive actress, who spent four decades struggling to succeed before landing the Golden Girls role in 1985, went on to portray mother to Sylvester Stallone (Stop! OR My Mom Will Shoot), Cher (Mask) and Barry Manilow (Copacabana).

The Golden Girls, rerun six times a day on Lifetime, will broadcast a special tribute to Getty. The homage will highlight Sophia’s 10 most memorable episodes.
