Kerry Washington always used to play safe yet sophisticated. At the 23rd Annual American Cinematheque Awards, though, she chose to be different and wore a printed outfit. She would have probably looked fine with a plain colored belt, but Kerry either didn’t have any or thought adding a two-colored one would do. Never mind if the colors matched the printed colors of her outfit or not. Ah well, we all make mistakes and this one was a big one on the red carpet.

Watched “It’s a Wonderful Lie” episode of Gossip Girl the other night and Lily VanderWoodsen’s gown at the Snowflake Ball was so gorgeous I had to find out where the show’s costume department got it. Turns out it was from Vera Wang’s Bridal Collection 2009, albeit with a modified back. I like it better with the knot at the back, though, but I guess since Lily isn’t a bride, and instead a mom with teenaged kids, they had to tone the gown down a bit. Kelly Rutherford, who plays Lily, has always been one beautiful actress. I’ve always liked her ever since I first saw her on “Kindred: The Embraced”, the vampire’s love interest.

Gabrielle Union was probably the only real one who was glam at the Cadillac Records premiere. She looks real fab in this black gown with golden flames, especially when she smiles. Nice bangles she’s got there. Like her hair, too. Now that’s the way a Hollywood star should grace the red carpet.

Chyna Lane doesn’t seem to catch on fashion trends fast enough to stay on track. Bubble dresses are so last season. She certainly got yawns when she walked on the Cadillac Records red carpet. But wait — what are those on her feet?? Bandage strips? Flesh-colored garter? Whatever they are, she shouldn’t have worn them or shown them if she had to wear them. A total turn off.

Darnell Martin may be one good writer and director, but when it comes to the red carpet, she should be slimed. Probably why she chose a gown in that color, so when she does get slimed no one would notice. Ha ha. Her clutch might look fab if she wore a black gown (like almost every other female celeb at the Cadillac Records premiere), instead. Nice cleavage, though.

Beyonce’s fashion choices of late have been extremes — futuristic and strange on one end, sophisticated and glamorous on another. At the “Cadillac Records” premiere, however, I can’t tell what image she’s projecting — Hollywood glam with the cut and style of her gown, seductive and eyebrow raising with the see-through embroidered lower part of the gown, or out of style with her brushed back ‘do. I should like the general look, but I don’t. What say you?

What was she thinking??? Scarlett Johansson must have dressed up under the influence or was totally high when she went to the “Spirit” photocall. Eyelet black blouse with too many eyelets and a bad tie-die print look on her skirt. Worse, the skirt’s waist is too high up, making her look way much shorter than she really is. Quick Ryan — drag her home and make her burn this outfit, puh-leaze!

Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt are back from their honeymoon and Heidi is all aglow, as all brides usually are. In her case, most specially since they came from sunny Mexico. Her strapless floral dress shouts out beach babe, but they’re back in L.A., so it isn’t anymore the proper attire. But yes, she looks cute in it and those white sandals match. Too bad when they eloped she didn’t plan on packing along a white tote, which would have been better than the tan hobo bag she brought along.
